When and where we are singing next
December 15th - our Christmas concert. Details to follow.
Musical workshops a HIT!
Due to popular demand, we run regular workshops throughout the year. These are for us to work on techniques to aid singing and to learn more great songs!
Back in 2016, we learnt a beautiful song with 4 part harmonies from Songs for a New World by Jason Robert Brown. Here is a clip of us working on the song... . click to listen...https://www.instagram.com/p/BIxw-dFjZdm/
Last year it was the turn of The Greatest Showman workshop and then a Rock Workshop with a real live band backing us. It was very different - and a lot of fun - singing with live music rather than a backing track.
We also had a great time singing at the Wicked workshop. I think we have 'changed for good'...
We've even had an acapella workshop and an Abba workshop. The workshops are often challenging, always fun and it's great to try something new (and eat cake too!).
The kind of things we get up to
In August we gave Wimborne its very first pop up pub choir at The Olive Branch. Over 100 people came to sing and it was a brilliant experience, which I'm sure we will definitely repeat!
We have recorded Demo CDs. It gives the choirs an opportunity to hear what they really sound like and to have the experience of singing in a recording studio.
We took part in Dancing with Choirs at Poole Lighthouse in March, which was an amazing event. As we sang, children danced in front of us. It was a magical evening.
We've performed a couple of years running at the Wimborne Lights Switch-on.
And we always love singing at the various festivals throughout the county, such as:
- Vdub at the Pub in Wimborne
- The Music and Merriment Festival, Spetisbury Rings
- Willett Arms (pub in Wimborne) Mini-Fest
- Dorset Food & Drink Festival, Dorchester
Then there's Wimborne Folk Festival every year. We've sung in the Minster, on stage in the Square, at the Model Village and at Willow Walk. I wonder where we'll be next year?
We also give occasional family concerts, such as the one at Freestyle music centre where children had the chance to sing with us. Last year's Just Sing Family Festival was held at Lytchett Matravers Village Hall. Wimborne held a family fun day where we were singing in the Square.
The highlight of our year is always our Christmas Concert. It's where family and friends come to hear us and help us raise a lot of money for charity. To date we've raised over £15,000 for local charities. This year our concert is on 15th December. More details to follow.
Singing with G4!
In 2016 we supported G4 on their Back for Good Tour! We (100 of us) sang alongside them in 5 songs and performed two of our own arrangements on their opening night of the tour at The Lighthouse in Poole. We were naturally very excited to be selected to take part in this opportunity.
Then in 2017, G4 agreed to sing with us again. This time we were supporting them and singing two of our own songs in a Christmas concert in St. Aldhelm's Church. Poole.
